Composites in railway and transport industry

In transport vehicles, lightweight composite construction improves speed, acceleration, braking and allows the interior to be utilised more efficiently. Lightweight construction can be used to implement, for example, a double-decker train weighing only 54,000 kg and capable of carrying 113 passengers. A conventional railway coach weighs 56,000 kg, but accommodates only 48 passengers. The lighter train also accelerates and slows down quickly in fast-paced traffic.

We design and manufacture floor systems utilising sandwich construction. The system consists of metal-surfaced modules that facilitate equipment maintenance.

	This ICS double-decker wagon is lightweight because many of its facilities and structural components have been made with composites.
An integrated fastening system reduces noise and vibration in the passenger compartment, enhancing travel comfort. The modular floor is safe and can be installed quickly. Although the sandwich construction and attachment system is lightweight, the floor stands up to even the most demanding functional applications.
